Boys & Girls Clubs of America
National Kids Day
During the
summer of 2003, I was retained to develop publicity for National
KidsDay, being promoted by The Boys & Girls Clubs of America
to set aside a day on the American calendar to honor our children,
and the value of parents and grandparents in spending meaningful
time with their youngsters.
In a matter of weeks, I was able to enlist
the support of television legend Art Linkletter, singer Connie
Stevens, and the star of FOX-TV's "Malcolm In The Middle,"
Brian Cranston. Coverage was arranged on such shows as CBS
Sunday Morning and CNN's Sunday Morning News. A major AP story
generated tremendous coverage in other media. All those in
the field said that celebrities could not be recruited in
a short period of time. Furthermore, I was able to make connections
with movie and television stars, eliciting their interest
in supporting National KidsDay in future years.
